Our history and beginnings

United Motor Products Inc.

Richard and Rick Maxwell, father and son from Westlake, Ohio, founded United Ignition Wire Corp. in 1989. With Richard's 25 years of knowledge in every aspect of the aftermarket and Rick's upbringing in the business, they got to work establishing a new aftermarket ignition wire line. They relocated to a 3000 square foot facility after a year. United was then authorized to distribute and use Packard ignition wire and components in all of its wire sets.

The Tri-Pak tune-up kit was created in 1991 and quickly became an industry standard. It was also the year when a local boater received the first United Marine Mega-Mag wire set. After adding battery cables, distributor caps, rotors, coils, and control modules to finish out the ignition line, the United product lines grew in popularity due to their high quality and low cost.

United relocated to a 16,000-square-foot building in 1997. After 12 years of expansion, United bought its present 21,000 square foot building. United has spent the last 24 years focusing on offering only the best quality components and exceptional customer service at affordable prices. This legacy is carried on today as United expands into new industries, exhibiting its goods and services.
